From Saturday 25 to Sunday 26 October, the Ideas Lab at JCU Smithfield Campus (Building D4) was transformed into a high-energy esports arena — and what a weekend it was!

High school gamers from across the Cairns region came together for an action-packed tournament filled with teamwork, excitement, and community spirit.

The event, proudly delivered by QUT and supported by the Department of Social Services, Queensland Government, Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN), headspace, Dolly’s Dream, and Cairns Regional Council Libraries, showcased the power of inclusive and positive gaming.

Players didn’t just compete — they connected, learned, and grew through shared experiences that built confidence, digital skills, and friendships - respectful, safe and inclusive communities.

🎮 Event Highlights Included:

• Rocket League and Marvel Rivals competitions

• Hands-on experience in event management, streaming, and broadcasting

• Free access to the EsportsAble Academy, with live coaching from pro players and mentors

• Immersive tech experiences with QUT’s AR zone

• Hands on activations and engagement with Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN), headspace, Dolly’s Dream, and the Cairns Regional Council Library

• Free Pizza for all participants

• Exciting prizes, merch giveaways, and the ultimate grand prize trip to Brisbane for the QLD EsportsAble State Championship!

This event was more than just gaming — it was about inclusion, and respectful and safe communities. With the support of local schools, parents, and community partners, EsportsAble Cairns created a welcoming space where young people could play, learn, and belong.
