Rockhampton’s Ultimate High School Esports Showdown as it happened

On 26 and 27 July, CQUniversity Rockhampton was transformed into a high-energy esports arena as over 50 high school competitors from across the Central Region competed in a two-day tournament packed with action, strategy, and unforgettable moments.

Proudly delivered by QUT and supported by the Australian Department of Social Services, Queensland Government, Queenslanders with Disability Network, Headspace, NBN, Rockhampton Regional Council, MSI and the Chiefs Esports Club. This milestone event gave young players the ultimate platform to experience and level up in the world of competitive gaming.

  • High-stakes competitions in crowd-favourite titles like Rocket League and the exciting new Marvel Rivals

  • Exclusive to Rockhampton Region residents under 18, offering a local stage to shine — and maybe even go further!

  • Volunteer opportunities in event management, marketing, and live broadcasting, building real-world experience

  • Free access to the EsportsAble Academy, with live coaching from professional esports players and industry mentors

  • A cutting-edge immersive tech zone featuring QUT’s augmented reality innovations and the interactive NBN Co Virtual Reality experience, giving players a glimpse into the future of digital engagement.

  • Plenty of prizes and merch for players and spectators alike

  • A grand prize: an all-expenses-paid trip to Brisbane for the QLD EsportsAble State Championship

  • 🎨 The headspace Fan Art Awards, celebrating creativity and mental wellbeing

  • A dedicated QDN EsportsAble Academy mentor was on hand to support players.

  • Parent and Stakeholder show matches offered a unique opportunity for families, educators, and community leaders to step into the players’ world — building understanding, breaking down generational barriers, and showcasing the enjoyment, teamwork and communication skills at the heart of esports.

  • Mental health counselling and therapy

  • Social and group programs for peer connection
