CHILD SAFETY POLICY
The EsportsAble Academy prioritizes the creation of a safe and inclusive environment, adhering to Queensland child protection laws and the QUT Child Protection Policy. The project is also required to complete an annual child safety compliance check with the Department of Social Services, which includes a review of all activities against the EsportsAble Risk Management Plan.
Key aspects of our risk management plan include:
Requirement for informed, validated consent. All participants will need to be verified before they can access the EsportsAble Academy community and engage directly with other adolescents. This ensures that children are free from the risk of predators. This will require verification using a government-issued photographic identification for both the child and parent. You will also be forwarded updates on your child’s progress and interactions in the Academy.
Participation in all Academy activities (including Tournaments) requires verified parental or carer consent, with clear communication about schedules and events. All tournaments are supervised, ensuring fair play, appropriate content moderation during live streaming, and compliance with age restrictions.
Equipment is pre-set for participants, and strict measures like restricted access, CCTV monitoring, and check-in/check-out systems ensure security.
Additionally, dedicated quiet spaces and wellbeing staff are available for emotional support, with clear procedures to address cyberbullying and inappropriate behavior.
Staff and volunteers are rigorously vetted, holding Blue Cards, completing child safety inductions, and adhering to a strict code of conduct. They are easily identifiable with proper ID and lanyards.
Cybersecurity is emphasized through moderated live streams and adherence to the eSafety Commissioner’s framework. Reporting systems are in place for online misconduct, and there are established protocols for incident response, including on-site security, emergency procedures, and structured reporting channels.
These comprehensive measures ensure a safe and supportive environment where young gamers can thrive.
